Holiday on Ice announces a new collaboration with Barry Manilow

Pop culture icon and legendary showman Barry Manilow and Holiday on Ice today announced a major new collaboration. The world leader in family ice shows will showcase a selection of Manilow’s most popular songs – naturally including no 1 hits Mandy and Copacabana - in the new show Tropicana.
Managing Director Caspar Gerwe: ‘Each of Barry Manilow’s songs is packed with emotion and drama that perfectly matches with the spectacle and beauty of an ice show. Our creative team, based in Amsterdam, devises a new show every year and we have long wanted to work with Barry; so Tropicana is a dream come true for us. A group of world-class figure skaters has been rehearsing in the Netherlands for weeks to put the finishing touches on Tropicana before its world premiere in Hamburg on the 4th of November’.

Barry Manilow: ‘It is a great pleasure for me to work with the renowned Holiday on Ice and look forward to experiencing the presentation of my music in the world's most popular ice show.' With worldwide sales of more than 75 million records, Barry Manilow’s success is a benchmark in popular music. His concerts sell out instantly. He is ranked as the top Adult Contemporary chart artist of all time, according to R&R (Radio&Records) and Billboard magazines. Rolling Stone crowned him ‘a giant among entertainers… the showman of our generation,’ and Frank Sinatra summed up Manilow best when Ol’ Blue Eyes told the British press, ‘He’s next.’

Tropicana is an international journey from the city streets to exotic beach clubs of Latin America. Imposing orchestral arrangements switch from Latin-pop and dream ballads to swinging Big Band rhythms and Rock 'n' Roll. Holiday on Ice’ Tropicana will be the first touring show to incorporate brand new technology for infrared performance tracking with lights created by Zactrack. They are also scoring a first with their giant LED screen containing specially made projections of graphics and footage of skaters.
